In Loving Memory of David Graystone
This live stream will commence on Thursday 11th November 2021
2pm - St Mary Magdalene Church, Richmond
David was a much-loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Family Member and Friend.
He was born in Lincoln on the 28th of January 1951, the third of four children and the youngest son of Paul and Mary Graystone.
From a young age David was always curious. He had a thirst for knowledge and never tired of learning about the world around him. This included the climate (influenced by his meteorologist father perhaps) and everything about nature and the environment. We would see this later in his passion for his allotment and the fact that he seemed to know the name of every flower, plant and vegetable.
His inbuilt need for truth and equality was another thread that you can see run throughout his life. He would never try and avoid uncomfortable truths and he was totally unimpressed by the trappings of money. He was active in politics, being a member of the Richmond Park Labour party, believing it being the only way to help stop the increasing inequality in the country. And, of course, he believed wholeheartedly in the need for social justice and fairness.
He will be remembered for his humanity, kindness and of course his sense of humour, which is well known to all those who have spent time with him. He was already demonstrating his sharp wit in the regular letters he wrote as a teenager to his family; he would always be joking. He was brilliant at skewering pretentiousness with a witty comment.
For more than thirty years he worked for BT and one of his major achievements was being awarded billing executive of the year in 2001. He retired in 2009 and pursued other passions such as maths tutoring (he loved helping youngsters with their studies and got a real buzz out of seeing them succeed) and learning languages such as French, Russian and Romanian.
But his first love was for his family who he cared about dearly and with a passion and was his pride and joy.
David will be greatly missed by so many people whose lives he touched and by those who loved him.
