Cdr Graham Tolhurst BAYNES..RN (Retd)
Died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday 7th March 2025 aged 91 years.
Graham excelled at Modern Languages and Music whilst at school, however he joined the Royal Navy as an engineer and became a submariner and nuclear engineer.
After the Navy, Graham worked in industry in Yorkshire and Leicestershire before his move to Wareham.
It was in his retirement that he was able to indulge his hobbies of flute and piccolo playing, and cycling (although not at the same time). Through his cycling he raised a substantial amount of money for charity. He had quiet but profound Christian faith. He was very involved in the local community and had links through CCLL with families in Belarus. He was able to further develop his linguistic skills in Russian as well as retaining his fluency in both French and German (often at the same time).
He leaves behind Nancy, his beloved wife of nearly 68 years.
He was a much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In the words of his eldest grandson, “He and his mischievousness will be sorely missed.
