Helen Claire Blackman

Helen was born on 10th November 1966 in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Her parents are Felicity Collier and Ian Blackman who both survive her. Helen has a brother, Gavin, and sister, Tamara. The family moved to Flackwell Heath, Bucks, when Helen was five and Helen went to Juniper Hill School followed by Beaconsfield High School.
Helen went to Nottingham Trent University in 1974 where she gained a BA in Applied Social Sciences and a Certificate of Qualification in Social Work.
Following her graduation. Helen then joined Nottinghamshire County Social Services Department as a children’s social worker in 1988. She has lived in Nottingham City all her adult life. In 1998, she transferred to work for Children’s Services for the new unitary authority, Nottingham City Council, becoming a team leader, and then a senior manager for protection and looked after children.
Later in her career Helen was appointed Director of Integrated Children’s Services. She had a formidable reputation for her “dedicated, skilled and inspirational work” (quote from David Mellor, leader of the City Council) and fought tirelessly to ensure that vulnerable children in the city had the best services and support possible.
Helen had four children, Stephen, now 33, Raia, 26, Kayla, 21 and Ella, 17. She was married to Kevin Campbell. Despite her huge work commitment, Helen was a devoted wife and mother and created for her children a loving and secure family life and her children’s resilience and courage are testimony to her life. Helen was also at the centre of her wider family and organised annual regular family gatherings at her parents’ home in Montlaur France. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.
