James Sharp was a man with passion, enthusiasm and a personality that would light up a room. Born on the 16th of February 1984, and raised in Lock Lane, Castleford, James spent his childhood outdoors, making fires, building dens, and having fun with his friends.

From an early age, it was clear to see James’ natural talent for rugby. His love for the game, combined with his natural ability to lead, led him to become the captain of his school team. Through his love of sport, James gained many lifelong friends. Though James stepped away from playing rugby when he became a father, his passion for sport never faltered.

Family was everything to James and he devoted his life to his three wonderful children: Charlie, Amber and Tommy. Little did James know, that in November 2012, life would take a beautiful turn, when he met Gemma. The connection between James and Gemma was instant and it wasn’t long before he knew that she was the one. Together, they built a beautiful, blended family with their five children- Lily, Charlie, Amber, Grayson and Tommy. James and Gemma married in October 2018 in Florida with their children by their side. To Gemma, he was always “James Darling”, her partner, her best friend and the absolute love of her life.

Life with James was an adventure. Whether it was trips in the camper van, hosting dinners around their large family table or taking up his latest hobby, James made sure there was never a dull moment.

James decided to take up boxing at the age of 30, which reignited his competitive streak and led to him compete in the ring. However, it was as a boxing coach that James truly thrived. At White Rose Boxing club, James coached and mentored young boxers, helping them to realise and achieve their goals.

James’ dedication to White Rose Boxing Club and his love for boxing has left a legacy that will continue to inspire others. His dream was to take a group of young boxers abroad to compete, and in his honour, all donations will go towards helping Sherri, Cain, and his fellow coaches, to fulfil that dream.

James Sharp – a devoted father, a loving husband, an inspiring coach and a friend to so many- his life is one to be celebrated and his memory will always bring a smile to our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family are asking for donations to be made to White Rose Boxing Club.
