Nana Afua Oforiwah Buapim (Nee Ababio) was born on the 28th June 1974 to Nana Kwaku Bio, a businessman of blessed memory and Mrs. Doris Quaye (Nee Addison), a retired nurse. She was the third of fourteen siblings.
Nana K as she was affectionately known by her family began her primary school education at the Datus complex school in Ghana. In 1986 she wrote and passed the Common Entrance Examination which allowed her to proceed to secondary school education. She was subsequently admitted into the Aggrey Memorial Zion School in Ghana and completed her A levels in 1993.
Growing up in the town of Laterbiokorshie in Ghana, Nana K was a caring sister and known for her diplomacy in settling disputes amongst her siblings. She was given the moniker ‘K’ which is short for ‘Ketewa’ in Ashanti language and means ‘small’ in English by her family to distinguish her from her elder sister Nana Adwoa Oforiwah Ababio.
Nana K held a dream at a young age to become a professional nurse and follow in the footsteps of her mother. She was encouraged by her elder sister Nana Adwoa Oforiwah Ababio to respond to a vacancy for an office assistant by the Raphael Medical Centre. Nana K applied and despite her lack of experience was shortlisted for an interview. Her passion for the medical field allowed her to overcome this lack of experience and she was successful at the interview. With her dream of becoming a nurse now slowly turning into reality, Nana K worked at the Raphael Medical Centre for two years and she later joined Ernest Chemist a pharmaceutical company in Ghana where she acquired further valuable experience.
After careful consideration with her family, Nana K decided to pursue her medical dream in the UK where she felt greater opportunities awaited her. In 2000, she travelled to the UK and joined her brother Nana Yaw Bio and her sister Gyamfua Ababio. In 2005, she enrolled at the University of Salford in Manchester to pursue a degree in nursing which she successfully completed in 2008. She went to on to work at various hospitals including Wythenshawe Hospital, Stepping Hill, and Salford Royal where she built a strong network of medical professionals some of whom became close friends.
Besides supporting patients and ensuring that they received the care they deserved through her natural passion for nursing, Nana K was an active member of her local Newell Green Baptist church in Wythenshawe and participated in many initiatives. She enjoyed barbecues, travelling and spending time with her family. Her presence always had a unifying influence.
Nana K was married to Mr. Paul Buapim and they were blessed with three children namely - Gabrelle Asiedu-Buapim (18), Paul Buapim Jnr. (13) and Jack Buapim(8).
Her untimely death on 5 August 2023 has left a huge void in her family and local community. She inspired many to be kind and generous through her natural warmth and affection and with her shining light we say goodbye to her. May her soul rest in eternal peace

A shining light in our life has been dimmed, a voice we loved to listen to has gone silent, and a cherished feeling in our hearts has been lost. The void created can never can be filled as we grieve and mourn for our dear sister Nana Afua Oforiwah Ababio. Nana K, as we affectionately called her, was a loving, wonderful, and caring sister, whose departure from the family has left us deeply saddened and heartbroken.
Your time on this earth may seem short but the Lord Almighty purposed your life to impact people from all walks of life. Your life was one of selflessness and love, and we thank you for the time we had together and all that you shared with us. You are a blessing to our family and your legacy will live on.
Even though our heart yearns to have you with us, we believe you are in a happy place in heaven. We ask for God’s blessings as we say goodbye to you, and take consolation in the wise words of the Apostle Paul in 2nd Corinthians Chapter 5, verses 1 and 2 –
"For we know if our earthy house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens, for in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven",
Nana K, Damirifa due, due, due, may your soul rest in peace.
